日本人小川氏「韓国文化は珍しくて面白い」

「世界各地で勤務してきましたが韓国人みたいに面白い人々はいなかったです。展示会を通じて韓国人の多様な反応を感じたり考え方を交換したいです。」
韓国の日常文化を温かい視点で撮り写真展を開く小川裕司氏(52)の話だ。
日本海運会社のNYK Line(Korea)の副社長である小川氏は10年前韓国に出張に来たことがある。
昨年4月から駐在員として韓国で過ごしながら日本と違う新しいものに出会うたびにカメラに撮り続けた。 初めてのことが多いので展示会のタイトルも「なんせんちょうむ（生まれて初めて）」とした。 写真展は9日から21日まで仁寺洞のサムジキルで開かれる。
早稲田大学の国際政治学科を卒業した後、28年間NYKに勤めている彼は2000年からシドニーで勤務。日本人プロの写真家らと出会い写真を学び始めた。出張に行くたびに写真を撮ってきたが、隣の国である韓国はどの異国よりも強い印象を持った。
「食堂でビビンパを注文してかきまぜようとしたらおばさんが私のスプーンを取り上げてかけ混ぜてくれました。いいかげんなかき混ぜ方はみていられないようです。最初は慌てましたが何か人間的で親しさが感じられましたので、そういった感じを写真に表現してみたくなりました。」だからか写真の素材もウイスキーとビールを混ぜ爆弾酒を作る過程、おまけに出るすばらしいおかず、活力に溢れたチャガルチ市場、高速道路のおせんべいなど素朴である。
「写真を撮りながら感じたことを共有したいので韓国人や日本人の駐在員とよく寄合を開きます。」
今回の展示会は小川氏が出版したフォトエッセイを見たチョンホギュン（サムジキ社長）の積極的な支援で成り立った。

A Japanese businessman, Mr. Ogawa said “Korean culture is different and fascinating.”

“I had worked in many different cities in the world, but I have never met people like Koreans. They are so fascinating. Through my photo exhibition, I would like to learn how Koreans feel about my works and learn their way of thinking.” Said Mr. Ogawa (52 years old), who takes photos of ordinary lives in Korea from a warm point of view.
Mr. Ogawa, vice president of Japanese shipping firm NYK Line (Korea), visited Korea for the first time about 10 years ago, and now he takes photos of something new while living here as an expatriate since April of last year. Because he encounters many new things in this country, his photo exhibition is titled “Nan Seng Cheo Um (First Time in My Life)”. This exhibition is held from August 9 to 21 at Samziegil located in Insadon.
Since graduating from International Politics Division of Waseda University, Mr. Ogawa has been working at NYK for 28 years. He was transferred to Sydney in 2000, and he started learning photo taking techniques from professional photographers there. He took many photos whenever he goes on a business trip to overseas, but Japan’s neighboring country, Korea gave him the strongest impression than any other countries he visited.
“At a restaurant, I ordered bi-bim bob, and when I just started stirring, a female staff there took my spoon and started stirring my bi-bim bob. She just could not stand to see how I stirred it. I was first very surprised, but at the same time I felt something familiar and warm-hearted. So I wanted to take a photo expressing how I felt through this experience.” All of his photos are like this; for example, the process of making “bomb liquor” (mixture of whisky and beer), free dishes, lively local market, rice cracker sellers on the highway, and so on.
He also said, “I want to share how I felt while taking photos with Koreans and Japanese, so I often call a casual gathering with my friends.”
His exhibition was supported by Cheon Ho Gyun, president of Samziegil, who was very much impressed with Mr. Ogawa’s new photo-essay book, “Nan Seng Cheo Um.”
